La Republica in Lima, Peru, is developing features based on Printcasting's code base, said Printcasting founder Dan Pacheco. The paper is getting access to the code before the software is open sourced in June, he said.
"Using Printcasting, we hope papers like La Republica can reach ... the population in a new way. Instead of investing in hundreds of expensive trucks and fuel, they could enlist the help of thousands of citizen bloggers who have home printers," Pacheco said.
Printcasting allows users to create customized publications automatically generated through templates that can be printed out or viewed online.
People in 35 countries around the world are using Printcasting, which is funded by an $837,000 grant from the Knight News Challenge.
Part of that funding is earmarked for local testing before the open source version of the code is released.
Pacheco said the service expects to unveil three additional partnerships before June.
